About Me

IMG_0424.JPG

I am a 60-something self-taught potter that studied photography and sculpture in college. Thirty-plus years of working with clay has always been a joy to me. I especially love red earthenware clay in combination with opalescent blue and turquoise glazes, allowing the rich red clay colors to show through to enhance the glaze design.

My "purpose" is purely selfish; as it feeds my soul to hunker down with clay. It is a pure release for me to just sit at the wheel or with a clump of clay and see what happens. I love finding the “zone”.

One of my favorite things is teaching pottery classes to kids at our local Rec Center during the summer months. To me, they offer as much creativity and enthusiasm as I try to give to them with the different projects we complete.

Along with running my studio, I am also a member of the Central Maine Clay Artists. We hold an annual fundraiser “Mug Season” (a takeoff on Maine’s mud season) each spring to raise money for the local high school art programs. We all donate mugs to participating local coffee shops for sale. We advertise with hopes to benefit the coffee shops as well as gifting the proceeds to the local high school art programs. Our group has also managed to put together an annual pop-up store for the holidays, inviting other artists to participate and sell with us, creating the “Holiday Pottery Shop” for Holiday shopping.

When you buy from an independent artist, you are purchasing more than just a piece of pottery. You are:

  1. Keeping dollars in the local economy.

  2. Embracing unique art.

  3. Buying countless hours of experimentation, failure, frustration, and most importantly – pure joy!

  4. Investing in entrepreneurship
